Well hello, traveler!
Are you currently planning that perfect trip?
My spidey sense tells me you might be a planner, just like I am. 👋
You’ve been researching so much! Organizing the details. Considering the different activities that will keep everyone entertained. ✔
Real talk moment, friend…
Things will go wrong.
-
- that ache you thought was swimmer’s ear turns into a doctor’s visit at a clinic in the heart of Mexico and a prescription for antibióticos (¡gracias!)
-
- the fishing trip with the fam leaves someone not to be named so covered with mosquito bites they look like one giant hive, and spend the night googling Zika virus symptoms in the hotel room (CDC has a great site)
-
- that hike to the top of the 3,500 foot elevation gain trail gets cut short because someone (again no names here) threw up at the first viewpoint
-
- an ATV adventure through the sand dunes ends with one of you flying off a cliff and landing to the tune of two or three (who’s counting??) shattered knuckles
I might have a little bit of experience with travel disasters. 😳
Ok, you’re right. A LOT of experience with travel disasters.
So I can save you all that pressure that’s building as you plan.
There. Is. No. Perfect.
Instead of getting lost in what could go wrong, embrace it. If you wait to pull the trigger until something is perfect, you may never go! And who wants that??

Don’t plan for every moment. And when something goes wrong take that moment too for what it is – as part of the adventure.
Now you’ve got a story to tell and I bet there will be a ton of other good memories around it as well.
Where to Go
You may remember me mentioning, we found an amazing deal on round-trip flights to Alaska for $158. So, I see the deal on Going (formerly Scott’s Cheap Flights), call up my hubby and say “Hey, you wanna go to Alaska for your birthday?” There was a resounding YES!!
And off we go!
You can get a sense of what not to miss at Denali National Park by reading our latest post from that trip.

If you are thinking about exploring the northern edge of America then we have this post to help you zero in on all the best things to see and do in Denali. Our more detailed post on a week-long Alaska Road Trip Itinerary that guides you through both Denali and Kenai Fjords National Park is available as well!
Eat and Drink Like a Local
We’re going to stick with Alaska for this one as I absolutely cannot, in good conscience, let you miss out on this.
You know me.
I did all of the research before we traveled and found a list of places to eat. But EVERY local we talked to mentioned a restaurant I had not read about. It’s not on any lists. Doesn’t come up on the first page of a Google search.
Only the locals seemed to be in the know.
So now I’m sharing it with you. If you are going to enjoy any time in Fairbanks Alaska then you have to eat at Lemongrass!
This five-star spot has been in Alaska since 1996 and their sister restaurant is in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Our food was so good that my husband swore he’d dip his shoe in the curry and eat it. And the drinks are delicious.
Try Thai Green Iced Tea for a unique drink that you’ll want to taste again and again.
Leave a comment and let us know if you have a favorite spot to eat or a drink that can’t be missed! We’d love to hear from you and you might get featured in an upcoming email!
By sharing your favorite spots with us you are helping spread the word for local businesses!
Until next time travelers!
